Awkward Days

Remember those awkward years? How can I forget mine? I believe this was my 5th grade school photo. This is one of those photos the family likes to hold over your head. You know, like publish it in the local newspaper on your birthday kind of picture? My sister calls this my "Tom Petty" picture. I remember being so proud of myself for rolling my hair with sponge rollers (the reason for the dent just above the curls). My hair was always so straight and I just wanted to look different. On top of that, look at that chipped tooth! That day is vividly implanted in my brain - read #15 for short recap.

I remember rolling my hair the night before and being so happy about how I was going to look. I had a beautiful image of how pretty my curls were going to be. Wow, was my mind playing tricks on me!

It's funny to look at this picture and see how pretty the color of my hair was. Was is the key word here since it's turned more of a dirty dishwater color frosted with gray.

This was one of my favorite shirts. I liked it because my lunch ticket would fit just perfectly in the front pocket. I hated when I grew out of it.

So, how about you? I'm proposing a challenge. I dare you all to post your awkward childhood picture. Come on! Do it!

Leave me a comment when you're done.

TOM PETTY! That's too funny! I see the resemblance (I adore Tom so it's a huge compliment). I will see if I can dig one out too. I can see it in my mind's eye...ick. Just have to find it!!

Darn sponger rollers! I had the same dents!

I could not put up a picture of myself in the fifth grade even if I was technically able to. Well, I guess I could plug the scanner into the mac dealy, but I really am too lazy and I am also not that technologically advanced. I was very ugly when I was in the fifth grade and it would reveal way too much about me. I was a sort of late bloomer. Even Dear Sir says I look NOTHING like I did when I was a kid. Also, you guys hardly know what I look like anyway! Ha ha!

You look so cute, and your hair IS so pretty and yellow!

Well all of my early pics were perfect as I was an adorable kid...I've got a cool one somewhere taken in college when I had beer spilled all over my pants and I looked like Grizzly Adams...

What a great idea! And your 5th grade pic looks a lot like me at that age, complete with curl dents. I never could figure those things out! I've put my own version of the awkward years up.

Yeah, I had a 5th grade photo and was growing out bangs. So my mom glued them back with water and hair spray. I hated how the picture came out. My 7th grade, on the other hand, was the first year I had "long" hair. That is posted on my blog from a few days ago. So I DID post one of those awful photos: http://live4truth13.blogspot.com/2006/11/silver-teeth-mary-over-at-owlhaven.html
