Happy Birthday To Me - 41 Years!

The story of me...

I was born in Ft. Meade, Maryland on my grandfather's birthday in a army hospital. "Legend" has it that he snuck into the hospital (because he soooo wanted to see his first born grandchild) and stole some doctor garb in order to get to see me. Not sure if he got caught. Oh how he spoiled me until his passing when I was in sixth grade. I remember the day - I was sitting in Mr. Arrington's class (yes, I'm 41 and I still remember this teacher's name) when I got called to the school office. I could see my mother up ahead waiting for me to walk down the long hallway. She then told me that granddaddy was in a coma and she had to fly to Maryland (we were living in Kentucky) and that I needed to ride the bus home to a friend's house. My dad wasn't very reliable. Apparently my granddaddy had already died when they had called my mom but they didn't want my mother to be upset during her travels. It's funny how you remember things. I remember this is when I first tried sammon croquets (sp?) - I loved them! My mom never would make them. She always said (and still does) that she hated the smell of tuna fish and she wasn't about to put her hands and jeopardize her smeller on canned sammon.

Later Taters!

Happy Birthday!

And come on. 41 isn't that old. Certainly not old enough that you should be surprised about still remembering grade school teachers' names. I still remember quite a few of mine, and I'm... even older than you are!

Well, happy birthday for reals! Good for you for not being ashamed of your age. People stick one foot in the grave far too early in our culture.

I hope it was a wonderful day, and that your husband did what he was supposed to.

Lisa - we make tuna patties too. I find tuna a lot easier to deal with than the canned sammon - too much bone to dig out. Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Foo - I don't think 41 is old... it's just I'm another year closer to death than I was a year ago.

KJaymz - I'm never ashamed of my age and I don't color my hair either. Oh, and yes HubbaHoney was great!

R - Thanks. My day was pretty busy but turned out really nice because HubbaHoney took me out. He's always good at making my day special.

You don't seem 41, because you are a mom of young kids. and a rocker. salmon...I like it. not nearly as stinky as tuna

Happy Boobah Anne!!

Isn't it strange the small minute things we remember during emotional upheavals? I don't think we ever really get over the loss of our granparents. Especially grand-daughters getting over the loss of a grandfather that spoiled them and made us feel like the most special person in the world. I had one like that too. :o) I was the only grand daughter on my dad's side, so I had it made!! :o)
