Aspartame update

I received a response back from Wrigley's and thought I would share it with you guys.

Dear Ms. HubbaDoo,

Thank you for writing to inquire about ingredients used in Wrigley products.

The amount of aspartame, or other high intensity sweetener, used per stick is extremely small, as they are only included as flavor enhancers. For example, it would take approximately 40 sticks of gum to equal the amount of aspartame in one can of diet soda.

Some Wrigley brands were improved to deliver the same flavor you have come to enjoy, with longer lasting power. With the change in packaging and the addition of the "Now Longer Lasting" tagline, a small amount of artificial sweetener was added to help with the longevity of the flavoring.

At this time, the following Wrigley products do not contain aspartame:
Big Red®
Freedent® Winterfresh

Of course, formulations can change from time to time, so please check the ingredient listing occasionally. We hope this information has been helpful. If you have any additional questions or comments feel free to contact us at 1-800-WRIGLEY Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST. Thank you again for reaching out to us.

Sincerely,

John Doe
Consumer Affairs Representative

In other words, you're only one person and they blew you off.

I'm glad to hear that Big Red and Winterfresh are still safe, though. I like both of those.

I like your response WHAT- EVER!!!

Good for you for taking action even if the response was unsatisfactory!

Foo - Probably not for long.

Barbara - I get to do something every now and then. I told them in my e-mail I wasn't going to purchase their products as long as aspartame was an ingredient.

If more agree with you and less buy they won't have something to sell. The down side is that too many people don't care what they injest into their bodies like you do. Makes it harder to be healthy!

Send them back a form letter, without the names filled in.

That will show 'em.

Probably just as well if they do put aspartame in Big Red. If I chew gum I have to stand still, and I don't get much done that way.

Wow. That's a really long winded way of saying "thanks for the input, you're overreacting, go away".

Gits. I love the undertones.

I mean, who but a big company can send a letter along the lines of, "yeah, I mean, sure, ma-am, there's a harmful substance in our supposedly good for you gum, but hey, I mean, you know, it's not MUCH..."?

Agreed. 'WHATEVER!' is a good response.

Fruity - It's all about making money ya know?

Fred - I just might do that.

CowChick - W H A T E V E R!!!

Foo - Can you chew gum AND ride your bike?

Alice - Exactly. At least I wrote to them. Now I'm done. For now.

Can you chew gum AND ride your bike?

I think you know the answer already, but it's "no". Anyway, the bugs would get stuck in it.

Okay Annie Poo
I came out of semi-retirement today just for you.

Foo - So you chew with your mouth open?

Uncle J - Did you mean to make a rhyme? I will come visit and see what's up. Better be somethin' good.

And of course Big Red now has Aspartame, although you may still find some older packs without it.

Flavor Enhancers?

More like "Life Dehancers" or "Brain Cancers"

I do know someone who died from Brain Tumors caused by Nutrasweet. What a horrible and young death it was indeed.
