Worms

I thought of this little song this morning while visiting Uncle Joe's blog. I remember so vividly being taught this song by a girl in my 5th grade class. I remember standing in line leaving the gym on the way back to class while she sang it over and over trying to teach me and some others in line. I have been so tempted to teach this to the kids but I have refrained from such behavior. I can't stand that saying "Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat." It just goes up my spine but... at the same time I chuckle to myself. Since my kids are home-schooled we don't get a lot of the "potty" songs and humor coming home although they learn enough from the neighbor kids.

Okay, here it goes - I really need to get this out of my head:

Nobody likes me, everybody hates me, I'm gonna eat some worms
Short fat juicy ones, long slimmey, slimy ones, itsy bitsy fuzzy wuzzy worms.

First you take a bucket, then you take a shovel,
Ooo how they wiggle and squirm,
Short fat juicy ones, long slimmey, slimy ones, itsy bitsy fuzzy wuzzy worms.

Firt you chopped their heads off, then you suck the guts out
Ooo how they wiggle and squirm,
Short fat juicy ones, long slimmey, slimy ones, itsy bitsy fuzzy wuzzy worms.

YUMMY!! My mother hated it every time I sang that song. She just wanted to gag.

Does anyone out there know this little gem of a song?

Share some of the songs you used to sing as a kid (and that you like to teach other people's kids).

I must admit to knowing the song. The words are a little different, but still the same thing! My dad sang it to us when we were little. That and Jeremiah was a Bullfrog. Great memories!!

I remember Jeremiah was a Bullfrog!! We used to sing that all the time when I was a kid.

I'm sure I will break down soon and teach the worm song to the kids.

You're making me hungry again!

I got a new guitar today! Very early birthday present, but I didn't have a decent acoustic/electric to play. It has a very sweet sound, good action.
It's an Epiphone ej-200ce.
Black. I'll post a picture of it later.

Uncle Joe - Can't wait to see it!! It's always good to get new toys!

I never heard the worm song and am drawing a blank at any songs I used to sing as a kid! I know there were tons.

Since its raining here I will add this classic:

"its raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring, he went to bed and bumped his head and couldn't get up till the morning"

Barbara - my kids like to sing that one too. HubbaDette has been singing some song all day today and right now I can't remember the words to it. I'm getting old - can't remember anything.

i seriously have to refrain from mentioning that one, since i have a "school hater".

Badoozer - I've never heard that one. That was great!

I used to love that song when I was little, and have to admit that I still have a fondness for the majority of childish chants/songs now, including that one.

It's one of those things that my parents and their parents etc never saw the harm in, and I feel the same way.

Just jolly good fun, what? :-)

One of our favorites was the Eensy Weensy Spider...
The Eensy Weensy spider climbed up the water spout, down came the rain and washed the spider out. Out came the sun and dried up all the rain and the eensy weensy spider went up the spout again.

I remember a song as a kid but it is probably rated R or even X but here it is:
My wife she has but one lung
my wife she has but one lung
she caughs up them old bloody oysters
and rolls them around on her tongue.

Well... I said it was xxx rated and you shouldn't be reading such stuff.

Alice - That sounds good. I will probably teach it to them and roll from laughter.

BerryMom - I remember that one - my daughter enjoys singing it as well.

Osray - Osray, Osray, Osray - that was GAROSS!!! That was grosser than gross:

Disgusting
Unpleasant
Sickening
Course
Foul
Vulgar
Nasty
Crass
Awful
Uncivilized
Dreadful
Uncouth
Repugnant
Repellent

I had a handful of those songs I was going to post; unfortunately, it's the same situation as I often find myself in when trying to tell a joke: on the spot, I can't seem to remember how it goes.

There was one about eating a baby bumblebee, and something about "nobody likes me, everybody hates me, I guess I'll eat some worms." Another had something to do with some sort of rodent or marsupial but I can't even recall what that might have been.

I do remember...

(to the tune of the McDonald's jingle from a time before their target demographic was gangsta thugz)

McDonald's is our kind of place
Hamburgers in your face
French fries between your toes
Dill pickles up your nose
Ketchup running down your back
We want our money back
Before we get a heart attack.

Then there was the one to the tune of the old Comet jingle...

Comet... it gets your bathtub clean
Comet... it tastes like gasoline
Comet... will make you vomit
So get some Comet
And vomit
Today

I used to sing the "Susie" songs...

Ms. Susie had a baby.
She named him Tiny Tim.
She put him the bathtub,
to see if he could swim.

He drank up all the water.
He ate up all the soap.
He tried to eat the bathtub.
But it wouldn't go down his throat.

Ms. Susie called the doctor.
Ms. Susie called the nurse.
Ms. Susie called the lady with the alligator purse.

"Measles" said the doctor.
"Mumps" said the nurse.
"Nothing" said the lady with the alligator purse.

My grandmother got mad because she thought I'd made up those "horrible songs" about my Mom. Her name was "Sue." :)

Foo - When you mentioned McDonalds I thought of this song - do you remember it?

Two all beef patties
Special sauce, lettuce, cheese
Pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun!

We used to go around singing that all the time and see who could sing it the fastest.

Tink - I remember that song! When I started reading what you typed the melody came to me and got a big kick out of that! I'm going to definitely teach that one to the kids. I'm cutting and pasting right now!

My version of the comet song went like this:
Comet will make your teeth turn green.. (first line)
and then the rest of Foo's version

(I just tried to post and it did not go through, so here it is again)

This is one that we used to sing and my mom really hated it, I can't remember what tune it was sung to, but here it goes:

Did you ever think, as a hearse goes by,
That you might be the next to die?
They wrap you up in a big white sheet,
And bury you down about six feet deep
They put you in a big black box,
And cover you up with dirt and rocks,
And all goes well, for about a week,
And then the coffin begins to leak!
The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out,
The worms play pinochle on your snout.
They eat your eyes, they eat your nose,
They eat the jelly between your toes.
A great big worm with rolling eyes,
Crawls in your stomach and out your eyes,
Your stomach turns a slimy green,
And pus pours out like whipping cream.
You spread it on a slice of bread,
And that's what worms eat when you're dead.

I remember that Comet sing...LOL...I knew Uncle Joe's version of it.

uncle joe said...

Okay my brain just kicked in:

How would you like to go fishin on a bright sunny day

go down to the crick and watch the crawdads play

with your hands in your pockets

and your pockets in your pants

you can watch the frogs do the hoochie coochie dance.

those are my dads words and he may have changed a few just because that's what he always did.

Can't say I remember any. My brothers all ways did the Smelly feet thing to me cause my feet always sweat excessively. But I do remember the worm one. I will check with son if he knows any!!

Actually, Uncle Joe's green teeth version of the Comet song is correct. I think the "bathtub clean" line is what was in the real Comet jingle. I'm glad someone's memory still works...
